HFC forum is a professional network, with the purpose to improve human factors methods in design and operations of safe, secure and resilient operations. (HFC forum was established based on the method CRIOP, which is open OA BY 4.0).

What Is Human Factors/Ergonomics?

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA)'s definition of HF:
Human Factors are methods and knowledge that can be used to assess and improve the interaction between people and technology / organization. The goal is to create a work situation that contributes to the greatest possible extent to realizing efficient and safe operation and that takes into account human opportunities, limitations and needs.

The following definition was adopted by the International Ergonomics Association (IEA)  in August 2000: 
"Human Factors (or Ergonomics) is the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data, and other methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance".
Human Factors domains are: Organizational factors (communication, teamwork, CRM…); Cognitive factors (perceptions, information processing, HMI…); Physical ergonomics (Layout, Working Environment, ….)

Ongoing activities in the forum are: 

1. Exchange experiences and ideas related to the design and operation of control systems*, including the qualifications and training of personnel
2. Exchange experiences and ideas related to "Human Factors" in control, at least by arranging annual user seminars
3. Contribute to the development and updating of CRIOP so that it remains a recognized HF verification method of control solutions
4. Contribute to research and development-projects concerning control systems
5. Promoting knowledge of best pratice for the management and monitoring of integrated operations / e-operations
6. Contribute to teaching at universities and colleges
7. Contribute in national and international standardization work

* Control system includes an MTO perspective, such as control systems, emergency centers, collaboration, drill cabins, crane cabins.
