SINTEF has been awarded a frame agreement from Statoil for the delivery of a training simulator for use in drilling and well subject areas. The delivery shall include the simulator, simulator software, services, facilities, functions, and personnel/resources required to conduct drilling simulator training. SINTEF has appointed eDrilling Solutions and Oiltec Solutions as subcontractors to the frame agreement.
The training simulator will improve the ability to identify potential serious problems early and learn to rectify the operations accordingly. Especially, this will contribute to the improvement of efficiency, quality and Health, Environment and Safety (HES).
The Drilling and Well Construction Department is responsible for developing the downhole simulator which will be based on the SINTEF dynamic flow model. This model is flexible and will handle all operations relevant for simulator training:

- Multi fluid operations
- Well control – handling of kick and loss
- TTRD
- HPHT
- ERD
