Jorunn Skjermo holds a PhD in marine aquaculture from NTNU in 1996. Since 2008 her research has been on developments of seaweed farming with a focus on up-scaling of the production methods, introduction of new species and new applications. Of current engagements are kelp farming in offshore conditions and research on how industrial seaweed farming can contribute to CO2 removal and climate positive effects.

Competence and research areas
Jorunn has been project manager or contributor in >50 R&D-projects in microbial ecology, marine juvenile production and seaweed farming. has since 2008 focused on up-scaling of the production methods for seaweeds. Coordinates SIG seaweed in Norway and participates in strategic work for the development of the seaweed industry, including inputs to EU Algae Strategies and international initiatives like Seaweed for Europe, Global Seaweed Coalition, the Blue Road to COP 26 by UN Global Compact.
