The Frost laboratory consists of two rooms with a total area of approx. 20 m2. The rooms are fully insulated and divided by a 1.5 m thick granite wall. Each side of the wall simulates a situation with rock mass and tunnel side. The temperature in the two rooms can be regulated between +10 and -20 ° C.
The laboratory offers several opportunities for experimental setup, with instrumentation, monitoring and analysing of the heat flux between the rock mass and the tunnel, and also testing of the behaviour of technical solutions when loading temperature changes.
