In the Material laboratory, we perform tests according to international standards and requirements that are set for materials such as bituminous and plastic roofing membranes, wind barriers, roofing underlays, radon and vapour barriers.
In addition to standardized test methods, we also perform non-standardized testing, possibly modified and specially designed, in connection with damage assignments and research and development projects. We have a large selection of laboratory equipment for standardized and non-standardized testing.
The laboratory is accredited according to EN ISO 17025 on selected methods.
Requirements and certification
Basic requirements for a building and its products are stated in The Planning and Building Act's associated regulations on technical requirements for buildings (TEK). These requirements are considered to be met when a product is approved by SINTEF (SINTEF Technical Approval).

The test methods performed at the Material laboratory can be used as a basis for issuing SINTEF Technical Approval or certification of products in Norway and other countries, among other things. The test methods can also be used to investigate installed products in connection with damage assignments.
