As Norway has launched its opening process for marine minerals exploration, we face critical questions about the potential development of a marine mineral industry. While this emerging field promises new resources and opportunities, it also raises significant controversies and concerns.

Making informed decisions about responsible exploration and production requires a solid knowledge foundation. What are the essential research priorities to enable well-informed choices? Which technological advancements are crucial for minimizing environmental impacts in exploration and production? How can we progress from initial resource estimates to proven reserves? What priorities should we focus on in our research agenda?

Our keynote speaker, prof. Bramley Murton from National Oceanography Centre in UK, will share insights gained from decades of geological and geochemical research. The leader of the Marine Mineral Research team, Prof. Murton, has extensive experience studying the evolution of the oceanic crust, its interactions with the oceans, and the processes involved in the formation of mineral deposits.
