ICT will for example support:
- Efficient data collection and in-time information and data sharing. Data and information facilitate new functionality, better coordination, situational awareness and decision support in user applications, control systems, management systems, automation systems, etc.
- Dynamic composition of transport chains. The load factor of load units and transport means can be increased, and the number of transport means on the road will be reduced.
- Mobility as a Service (MaaS). A variety of transport services can be integrated in one service for coordinated and smart use of transport networks.
- Smart charging and charging infrastructures for chargeable vehicles. Charge planning can be automated and integrated in route planning, and vehicles can cooperate with the charging infrastructure, which can provide in-time charging and load balancing.
- Automated vehicles. New sustainable mobility services can be established, user groups with reduced mobility can get access to transport, and the need for private cars is reduce.
- Collaboration between transport infrastructure and vehicles, and between vehicles. Transport will be safer and more efficient, and the capacity in the transport network will be better utilised.
SINTEF uses ICT and transport domain knowledge in research on the above for person transport, freight transport, traffic management and ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) within all transport modes (road, sea, rail and air). We also do research on related domain architectures and languages, model based development, semantic technologies for discovery and access to transport data, interoperability, scalability of solutions, etc.
