The Norwegian Computer Society, GS1 Norway, the Norwegian Packaging Association, SINTEF and the Federation of Norwegian Commercial and Service Enterprises have joined forces to establish RFID Innovation Centre Ltd.
RFID - Radio Frequency Identification
The abbreviation RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. While bar-codes can only be read at a short distance and in direct line of sight, RFID chips can be read at a much greater distance, even when they are obscured by other objects.
Applications of RFID chips are developing extremely rapidly all over the world, and about four billion have already been sold for a wide range of purposes. The chip that is fastened to your car windscreen is an RFID chip, and they are also to be found in ID cards, passports and other identification systems.
A test centre
The RFID Innovation Centre has been set up in order to ensure that Norwegian industry has somewhere to test its technology and to get advice. The aim is to give companies access to the latest technical solutions so that they can work with them.
