Measurements in Madrid
“On the one hand, we need to satisfy user requirements, but we also need to take into account the limitations imposed by the physical environment of the airport where wireless communication is concerned,” explains SINTEF's Jan Erik Håkegård.
In order to map what the airport physical environment means in terms of reflection and attenuation of radio signals, SINTEF will carry out a wide-ranging programme of measurements at Madrid's Barajas International Airport.

SINTEF has been awarded the contract as a member of the recently-formed NATMIG company, which SINTEF has set up together with the Oslo/Horten-based company Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, Sweden's SaAAB and the Irish Airtel ATN.
NATMIG aims, among other things, to ensure that the special needs of the Nordic countries are met by Europe's future ATM system.
