"The aim of this event is to give these young people an inspiring day, which we hope will offer them insight into what technology actually is and encourage them to study it in depth," says Ocean Space Explorer project manager Håvard Holm.
The pupils, who come from all over Norway, were given a heavily sponsored trip to Trondheim to offer them an experience what the country's technology capital has to offer. In the course of an intensive day, they visited MARINTEK's Ocean Basin, the cavitation tunnel and the research vessel Gunnerus and, not least, tasted fish fresh from the fjord.
The pupils and teachers who participated in the event have already learned a good deal about technology through the optional 'Technology in Practice' course at secondary school. Most of the authors of the teaching material are professors at the Department of Marine Technology at NTNU.
The most important aim of the optional course and the inspiration day is to inspire, motivate and not least important, to recruit pupils to natural science courses at high school.
