Biodiversity and area use
In Norway, the Norwegian Environment Agency informs and nominates experts from Norwegian research communities to work on the IPBES reports in cooperation with the Research Council of Norway.
This is the first time SINTEF has been appointed a reviewer position for an IPBES report. This report fits nicely in with SINTEFs strategic research area regarding biodiversity and area use.
Strengthens the collaborations to combat climate change
IPBES was established in 2012 as a result of an international meeting on biodiversity and ecosystem services in 2010 in relation to the United Nations Environment Programme. It is an independent international organ working to strengthen the cooperative work between science and politics regarding biodiversity and ecosystem services to secure the conservation and sustainable use of these resources, in the same way the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is strengthening this collaboration for climate research. IPBES will also secure long-term human wellbeing and sustainable development.
