WILMAR Wind Power Integration in Liberalised Electricity Markets

A fast introduction of large amounts of intermitting renewable power production as wind power can cause technical and economic problems of the power systems.

These problems might arise due to unpredictability of wind power or due to unbalance between local power demand and intermitting power produced causing grid instabilities.

The main objective of this project is to investigate these problems and to develop a modelling tool, which can be used to simulate alternative solutions providing a firm basis for decision making by system operators, power producers and energy authorities.

Both the possibilities for integrating fluctuating power production by optimising the interaction of the existing units in a given electricity system, the possibilities lying in power exchange between regions, and the performance of dedicated integration technologies like electricity storages are evaluated.
