Thermal Effects in Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells

The main objective of this project is to enhance the understanding and knowledge in the field of thermal effects in PEFCs.

Contact person

This objective will be reached through the following sub-goals:

  • Characterize the temperature profile within the MEA of a PEFC
  • Unveil the details of dissipated heat from the PEFC
  • Give new insight to the thermal processes and provide  recommendations for improved thermal management of PEFC

These objectives shall be obtained by detailed temperature measurements, caIorimetric measurements of the complete fuel cell, and detailed thermodynamic modeIling of one and two-dimensional fuel cell systems that take advantage of the measured results. In this manner we hope to add to the overall-objective to assist developers and designers of fuel cells with knowledge that reduce energy dissipation during operation and may increase cell life.
