Droplet erosion testing - TRL4
A simplified droplet erosion set up based on the helicopter test has been developed for testing erosion properties in a simple, fast and cheap way.
The simplified droplet erosion test enables low cost testing and ranking of potential new coatings/formulations to be used as erosion resistant coatings on leading edge of turbine blades.
The droplet erosion test has attracted interest from industry.
Further development, including a medium size drop erosion testing rig for testing real parts is planned.
