Thermally sprayed SiC coatings - TRL4
New process for thermally spraying of silicon carbide (SiC) to form a ceramic coating developed and tested in lab scale by NTNU PhD student.

The properties of SiC (extreme hardness, low friction coefficient, to being chemically inert, comparably low density) makes it highly attractive as a coating for many industrial applications. Together with the low raw material price, SiC is a cost-effective competitor to most hard coating materials on the market.
A new company (SERAM COATINGS AS) has been founded to further develop and commercialize the technology and the coatings.
