AQUAEXCEL

Coordinating access to top class research infrastructures is the aim of a new platform about to be carried out by a pan-European team of aquaculture research facilities. The project, titled AQUAEXCEL (‘Aquaculture Infrastructures for Excellence in European Fish Research'), has received EUR 9.2 million of EU funding under the ‘Research Infrastructures' area of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) Capacities programme.

As partner in AQUAEXCEL, SINTEF provides access to ACE (AquaCulture Engineering), a new large infrastructure developed for testing and verification of improved and new technical and operational solutions in sea-based aquaculture. Through offering a combination of full scale facilities for different species, flexible technology test sites at different exposure levels, and state-of-the-art monitoring and communication equipment, the infrastructure will promote engineering developments for a more sustainable marine aquaculture production.

SINTEF is also responsible for developing the e-Infrastructure for providing remote access to the highly specialized aquaculture research facilities participating in AQUAEXCEL.
