Welfare technology for increased physical activity – prevention of illness and increased quality of life in people with COPD

It is well documented that regular, physical activity is beneficial to good health and prevention of disease. This also applies to people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), in that physical activity improves physical ability and reduces dyspnea (shortness of breath). The project will be carried out in an interdisciplinary cooperation that links knowledge of pulmonary medicine, physical activity and product and service innovation.

The overall goal of this project is to establish knowledge of how welfare technology and new service can stimulate people with COPD to independent and permanent physical activity. The project will form the bases for a main project with aim to improve functions, tolerance to effort, independence and quality of life, as well as postpone the development of the disease for people with COPD.

Secondary objectives:

  • Identify insights about user needs (barriers, preferences and requirements related to physical activity and welfare technology) for people with COPD in the home.
  • Identify insights about possible applicable welfare technology for people with COPD related to physical activity in the home.
  • Suggestions for a new service, which includes the use of welfare technology, which can help people with COPD to proper, independent and permanent physical activity.
