There is a growing interest for using seaweed in food in Norway and among several possible food-algae the dulse (Palmaria palmata) is especially attractive due to good taste. Dulse can be cultivated in sea farms but has a complex life cycle that makes this challenging. To establish protocols that are suitable in Norway a project between SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture and the company Frøya Tare has been started. The goal of the project is to adjust and optimize especially the seedlings production of the species, which is a prerequisite for a controlled cultivation.
The project is funded by Regionalt Forskningsfond Midt-Norge.
