FuChar - Grid and Charging Infrastructure of the Future
Business models, framework and end-user tools for optimisation of grid operation - WP5
Contact person
EVV represents a movable and flexible load, both in terms of time and space, which with the right incentives could be used to optimise grid operation and utilisation. Thus, WP5 will address research question Q5 by investigating possible business models and end-user tools for electric charging and ancillary services. The WP is divided into three subtasks:
T5.1 – End-user tools and business models for active grid operation
Investigate opportunities for using EVV in active grid operation, specify necessary criteria for implementing this in new end-user tools and define alternative business models. The task will evaluate the potential benefits and cost savings related to such an end-user tool, and how this could enable a better distribution of charging demand, both in terms of time and space. This task will form the basis for the end-user tool to be developed in Task 5.2.
T5.2 – Development and testing of end-user tools
Develop and test an end-user tool for optimal time and space distribution of electric charging. This task will develop and test an end-user tool that uses price incentives (e.g. tariffs, blockchain) to obtain an optimal space and time distribution of electric charging, where the impact from autonomous transport also will be considered. Such a tool must consider transport patterns and grid topology and must be coordinated with the activities in WP4.
T5.3 – Framework and business models for ancillary services in active grid operation
Investigate necessary framework and business models for charging stations to serve as a flexibility source and offer ancillary services in active grid operation. This includes analysing possible business models that would make it affordable for suppliers of charging infrastructure and DSOs to invest in extra technology and control systems (investment and operation costs).
