AlumatIQ is an automated system for anode change operations in the aluminium smelting industry.

The AlumatIQ system handles the full anode change operation, from opening and closing of oven covers, breaking of crust, anode change, and anode covering, resulting in better working conditions for the human operator as well as reduced fluoride emission and better anode placement precision.

At the moment, SINTEF's contributions to the project are mainly focused on:

  • Identification and testing of sensor solutions to improve the crust breaking operation
  • Path planning for crust break operations

The project's duration: 2020-2023.
