The Nordic TSOs foresee increasing challenges in the operation of the power system as a result of more variable, renewable power generation, more exchange and changing demand patterns in the future. At the same time, new technology gives us new opportunities to monitor and predict the state of the network in real time, and the ability to initiate automatic response to stabilize critical parameters to avoid system collapse.
The system operators will develop new operator-information tools for improved situational awareness and enabling more automatic control to ensure stable power supply in the Nordic region. Thus, NEWEPS - the Nordic Early Warning and Early Prevention System - is planned to be integrated into the companies' operating systems.
The power systems are tightly integrated in the Nordic region. The project wants to take advantage of the opportunities digitalization offers and sees great benefit from collaborating and developing a smarter and digital energy sector.
