The project includes the integration of high-tech equipment for the coating of ultra-light and environmental friendly forged magnesium automotive and motorcycle wheels.
The goal is to develop and integrate the Plasma electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) process that will be developed and integrated into the manufacturing line of forged AZ80 and ZK60 Mg-alloy-wheels in Latvia. By integrating certain additions to the PEO process the corrosion protective properties of the coating can be enhanced.
SINTEF contributes with corrosion research and PEO process optimization to improve the anti-corrosion properties of protective coatings on the Mg-Wheels.
Mg wheels coated by PEO, Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation, will enable 20-50% lighter automotive and motorcycle wheels on the market, which will significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It will also create more jobs in Latvia and increase the export to the European automotive industry.
The project is a cooperation with SMW, University of Riga, and SINTEF
The project is financed by Norway Grants / Innovation Norway and LIAA
