FUMO (Future mobility and logistics in an arctic industrial city) was initiated to address the growing demand for transport capacity in an Arctic city. As both the population and the volume of goods transported increase, there is a pressing need to develop a transport system that is not only efficient but also environmentally sustainable. This includes solutions for more efficient goods transport and strategies for achieving a modal shift, which is particularly challenging in the arctic climate.
The project’s primary focus is identifying suitable and scalable solutions that meet needs of both citizens and industry. This is done through data collection and digital models of the transport system. These tools are essential for identifying bottlenecks, possible solutions, and key knowledge gaps that can transform the current transport infrastructure into a more sustainable system. The data collected encompasses various aspects of the transport system, including traffic patterns, habits, emissions, and energy consumption. By analyzing this data, the project aims to pinpoint inefficiencies and propose effective improvements.
SINTEF plays a provides the FUMO with competences in digital modeling, digital tools like SIMADES and the Energy Module and data collection.
Key partners in the project include Rana Utvikling, Rana Kommune, Mo Industrial Park AS, and Meyership AS. These collaborations are essential for achieving the project’s objectives and ensuring the practical application of its findings.
