Abstract
The paper presents the finding of a study conducted in order to analyse the characteristics of flow in a real complex terrain in the vicinity of the Kristiansand Airport (Kjevik), Norway. The paper starts with a brief description of the governing equations, their numerical discretization and the safety criteria used by the aviation industry to classify turbulence as mild or extreme. Directional dependence of the flow characteristics in the region is studied followed by an attempt to validate the experience of the pilots operating in the region.
