Thermal properties of volcanic ash and pumice

Abstract

This paper presents the results on thermal conductivity of volcanic ash and pumice collected from Kamchatka, Far East of Russia, and from Iceland, in dependence on different humidity and density. The research shows that the humidity of the samples is the key factor for thermal conductivity, both in the frozen and thawed state. And this in turn depends on porosity/density and chemical composition.
