Abstract
This paper gives a short introdution to adaptive antennas.Due to the increasing demand for higher spectrumefficiency, the introduction of adaptive or smart antennashas recently gained much attention. By introducing arrayantennas with intelligent beamsteering in mobile basestations, increased system capacity can be achieved byexploiting an access technique called Space DivisionMultiple Access (SDMA). Antenna (spatial) diversitycan be exploited to combat multipath fading effects. Thispaper adresses some topics related to adaptive antennasand present some recent results from both theoretical andpractical experiments.
