Energy analysis of a fish meal factory

Abstract

This memo evaluates the energy situation in a fish meal plant. The main focus is on identifying the energy consumption of the main processes and to find suitable waste heat supplies.
Several different solutions are considered for increasing energy efficiency, including both direct heat exchange and heat pump solutions. Some of the solutions are easy to implement, while others will require replacement of large infrastructure.
The results show that the suggested modifications can provide energy savings of up to 55%, with a reduction in CO2-emissions of over 60%. Even though the energy prices for Denmark disfavour electricity, the suggested solutions give a cost reduction of up to 20%. The economic results would be significantly better for a case in Norway.
