Abstract
This report gives an overview of aluminium packaging flows in Norway illus-trated with diagrams where the metal flow arrows are proportional to the ton-nage between distinct collection/processing steps. The results show that most of the used beverage cans are collected through the deposit system. The municipal collection system for food packaging on the other hand, collects only half of the metal products put on the market. The other half goes into the household waste bins.
The report also evaluates the quality after remelting of used beverage (in gen-eral) and food packaging (case study). Infrastructure of the recycling system in Scandinavia are further described. A discussion of sorting versus incineration are provided.
