Our modern society relies heavily on the ever-increasing processing power of digital computers for all kinds of applications. But there are important problems that businesses and society face that will remain intractable even for the best supercomputers we can hope to build. Quantum computers, a new computing paradigm, have the potential to help solve some of the most pressing problems humanity is facing. In this talk I will separate the hype from the reality.
