Abstract
In this paper we present Abaqus Explicit simulations of surface cracked line pipes loaded in tension, both with and without internal pressure. The Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman model is used to take into account ductile tearing. The results show how the strain capacity is reduced when the internal pressure is increased. Additionally, it’s shown how the strain capacity is influenced by variation in defect depth and length. Modeling techniques on how the 3D surface crack is established, using Abaqus CAE, are also presented.
