Abstract
Solutions for Federated Identity Management (FIM) are becoming mature. However, the adoption rate of this technology has not been as expected. Eleven semi-structured interviews with representatives from the Norwegian oil and gas industry have been analysed to learn more about the perceived benefits and challenges of industrial FIM adoption. Our results show that some of the benefits of FIM adoption are offset by its challenges, which contributes to slowing down the adoption process. Still, we see that the industry is experimenting with the technology in small scale, and our belief is that FIM will be adopted by the industry in some form or another in the future.
