Abstract
The thermal properties in dependence on porosity, humidity and chemical composition for volcanic materials will be mandatory for designing the use of these materials – especially when their advantages should be utilized in e.g. Arctic conditions. Volcanic materials – ashes and cinders – have been sampled from various locations at Kamchatka, and the thermal properties have been investigated in relation to physical and chemical parameters as well as humidity. The research shows that the humidity of the samples is the key factor for thermal conductivity, both in the frozen and thawed state. And this in turn depends on porosity/density and chemical composition.
