The department and research group The Ocean Observation and Ecosystems group is part of the department for Climate and Environment in SINTEF Ocean. In our group we work in multi- and interdisciplinary research teams with scientists from across the department and institute. Our key activities are centered around characterization of complex pollutant mixtures in environmental matrices, as well as fate and effects studies of chemical and particulate pollutants. We work in teams consisting of scientists and engineers with core expertise in e.g., analytical chemistry, ecotoxicology, molecular biology, ecology, sensor development, bioinformatics as well as researchers with domain expertise in our core markets including environmental technology, aquaculture, fisheries, maritime and offshore industries.
Our analytical chemistry laboratory is equipped with a wide range of state-of-the-art GC- and LC-based instrumentation, supported by a well-equipped sample preparation infrastructure. We are also currently building capacity and investing in infrastructure for advanced particle characterization, focusing on microplastics and nanoparticles.
Role and tasks We are now looking for a new member of our team to strengthen our capacity within analytical chemistry. The position will entail analysis of chemicals of emerging concern, including pharmaceuticals, biocides, and plastic chemicals. Metabolite analysis and-omics related analyses are also part of our analysis portfolio. We are seeking a PhD or MSc-level scientist with at least 5 years of work-experience within analytical chemistry which will be expected to work with:
- Organic Analytical Chemistry - method development, analysis, data science and visualization – on data from GC based systems ranging from GC-FID to GCxGC-QTOF and LC-MS/MS systems.
- Development of sample preparation procedures.
- Taking part in maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical equipment.
- Participation in experiments being conducted in the department ranging from field experiments/sampling to exposure studies in the laboratory.
- Contribute to the general planning for and operation of our combined laboratories.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers coming from multiple backgrounds (organic chemistry, oil chemistry, toxicology, microbiology, ecology) to find the best analytical solutions for their projects, and contribute to experiments within environmental chemistry, microbiology, and eco-toxicology.
Scientists in SINTEF are expected to participate in developing projects for both industry, EU and national funding agencies. This will be part of the overall work that is expected and as a rule this is something that is done as a group/team.
What SINTEF can offer:
- A world-leading research environment with significant societal impact.
- A dynamic workplace valuing diversity and initiative.
- Varied and flexible workdays.
- Unique opportunities for professional and personal development, particularly for researchers with doctorates.
- Competitive salary and comprehensive welfare offerings.
- Modern pension scheme with very good insurance benefits.
