The main goal of the project is to establish criteria and solutions for safe and cost-effective application of materials for hydrocarbon exploration and production in arctic regions.
Sub goals:
Extend the application range for structural steels by characterisation of brittle fracture resistance in welded steel structures including the effects of geometry constraint and local variation of material properties
Define criteria for low temperature application for steel and weldments including safety factors (design temperatures down to -60°C)
Develop specifications for qualification testing of materials to be applied down to -60°C
Define materials criteria for safe application under large deformation (strains > 5%) of pipelines and other structures including safety factors
Develop requirements for polymer coatings to be used down to -60°C, and under large temperature variations
Develop basis for application of light weight structures using materials like high strength steel, composites, and hybrid solutions
