OCAS
OCAS NV is an advanced, market-oriented research centre for steel applications. Based in Belgium, it is a joint venture between the Flemish Region and ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest mining and steel company. Besides its research and development activities for ArcelorMittal, OCAS collaborates closely with steel and metal processing companies all over the world, providing them with innovative services, solutions and products. The research centre attempts to valorise its know-how through product and solutions development, licenses, joint-ventures and spin-offs.
OCAS’ core expertise and competences are:
All activities are supported by a state-of-the-art material characterization and testing laboratory, with unique facilities in coating and metal characterization and processing tools. As an active member of the Metal Structures Centre - a consortium consisting of OCAS NV, the Soete Laboratory of Ghent University and the Belgian Welding Institute (BIL) – OCAS attempts to valorise its competencies in the energy and offshore market by the design, use and evaluation of the behaviour of (coated) steel structures for its worldwide customers. In BYEFOULING, OCAS will contribute to the coating characterisation tasks. It will help in manufacturing steel prototypes for off-shore structures and ships. OCAS has all facilities available for production of coated (3D-shaped) prototypes; from flat bare steel sheets to shaped steel components (including welding, cutting, metal cleaning and coating application).
