Admission Control in Intent-based Network Slices for the Smart Grid Usecase
Challenge and objective
- Mission-critical smart distribution grid operations necessitate ultra-reliable, low-latency communications.
- Managing dynamic service requests while meeting service-level objectives (SLOs) challenges to the network operators due to scarce resources.
Work performed
- Developed a discrete event simulation that implements a two-tier admission control mechanism.
Significant results
- To guarantee the SLOs for mission-critical traffic:
- enforce prioritization for mission-critical traffic,
- allocate reserved capacity for mission-critical traffic,
- use flow-level admission control for non-mission-critical traffic.
Impact for distribution system innovation
- Enhances resource allocation for mission-critical traffic.
- Supports the integration of advanced technologies in smart grid operations.
