To meet the expectations for secure power delivery and the ever-increasing demand for electricity in society, production plans for power production connected to the regional and local distribution networks will be a crucial piece of information for grid companies.

To increase the utilisation of existing grid and manage bottlenecks in daily operations, grid companies rely on receiving production plans from producers. This enables them to make informed decisions that ensure security of supply. The more data available about the grid, the greater the observability for the grid company, allowing the grid to be operated closer to its actual limits. More real-time information, combined with reliable load and production forecasts, will help increase awareness of the current risk.

Traditionally, production plans have not been shared with grid companies. Therefore, one of the objectives of this pilot project is to gain the necessary acceptance among producers to establish an automated solution where production plans are continuously sent from the producers to the grid company. These production plans will be sent to the Distribution Management System (DMS), which is currently used by operators at the control center in daily operations. The aim is also to get operational experience with this type of implemented information.

In the long term, the goal is a more dynamic grid operation where production plans, along with other tools such as flexibility markets, consumption forecasts, and so on, contribute to operating the grid in a smarter and more efficient manner. This will increase the utilisation of existing grid while also allowing for more capacity to be connected to the grid.
