Wednesday afternoon we offer three alternative excursions for all participants and guests that will give you a glimpse of the fantastic nature and scenery surrounding the hotel, all included in the participation fee. The excursions range from a relaxing boat ride along Loenvatnet lake to a spectacular climb up the mountainside right behind the hotel. Some information on the different alternatives can be found below.

Guided climb up Via Ferrata Loen

An exciting challenge in spectacular scenery. Via Ferrata Loen is a climbing trail with "iron road" built along the trail to limit any fall and enable all ages to climb the mountainside with a focus on safety. The trail starts at the sea level and takes you up to Mt. Hoven (1011 m.) with fantastic views of beautiful mountains, glaciers and fjord. Duration 5-6 hrs. At the top, you will find a restaurant and bar where you can refresh your energy before taking the Skylift back down again.

Boat trip along the beautiful Loen Valley

The beautiful, untamed nature and the valley's dramatic history make a visit to Lodalen an experience not to be missed. Tall mountains and blue glaciers surround the narrow valley, and the green waters of the Lovatnet Lake shimmers on the valley floor. Lodalen is also home to the most easily accessible glacier arm: Kjenndal Glacier, just 160 metres above sea level. We take the bus from Alexandra hotel to Lovatnet Lake, where we continue on the lake by the boat MS Kjenndalen II (with a lift for handicapped) until the end where we will find Kjenndal café for some light refreshments before the bus takes us back to the hotel in time for the conference dinner.

Briksdal Glacier

A short bus ride from the hotel we find the famous Briksdal glacier arm set attractively between roaring waterfalls and high peaks. From the bus stop we hike our way through the landscape formed by the glacier, providing a first-hand view of the significant retraction of the glacier level over the last decades and fascinating geological formations. El-cars ("Trolls") are available for those unable to hike themselves.
