The fate and behaviour of oils is crucial input when deciding on response tactics and as input to oil spill response modelling. A good overview of weathering in open waters has been established, but for ice-infested waters the knowledge is lacking. The main objective for this project within the JIP is to establish a good calibration set to improve modelling of weathering of oil spills in ice.
Several tasks studying weathering processes with oil-in-ice on a bench-scale, meso-scale and with smaler field experiments are performed as a part of this JIP.
The main focus of P1 is weathering properties of oil spills under various ice conditions for a broad selection of oil types.
