Concrete is the major construction material used during the construction of most power plants. Vattenfall focuses on three main markets: the Nordic countries, Germany and the Netherlands. In addition to Vattenfall's three major markets, the United Kingdom is a growth market, mainly in the wind power. There is also wind power operations in Denmark.

Vattenfall operates concrete laboratory in Älvkarleby, Sweden. It offers approximately 40 accredited testing and analysis methods in the areas of aggregates, concrete and shotcrete.

The laboratory is an accredited concrete laboratory since 1990. There is an outdoor concrete testing site in the river at the laboratory.
