N2kR-TC Version 1.3, updated October 2020 SINTEF Digital
N2kR-TC is a software application that presents a collection of road traffic noise examples, calculated according to the Nord 2000 Road Method (2006). The examples form a set of Type Cases, which represent pre-calculated situations. The situations include the type cases given in TemaNord 1996:525 ”Road Traffic Noise – Nordic Prediction Method”. In addition situations for building areas are included. As a main feature the noise level calculations can be made taking weather conditions into consideration, thus allow for the calculation of Lden – levels.
SINTEF Digital has developed this software, on request from the Nordic Public Roads Administrations.
First version 1.0 of the program was released May 2006 Present version 1.3 of October 2020 has changed local storage of pre-calculated data, to work under to Windows 7 (2012); and includes an update of dotNet framework to solve a web connection issue (2020).

Download and Installation
Download the N2kR v.1.3 setup package from here and unwrap it.
Run Setup.exe
Follow the instructions om the screen
Note that N2kR requires Microsoft Dot Net Framework 4.7.1. If the N2kR Setup program detects that it is missing, it will automatically run the process of downloading and installing it. Alternatively the framework can be installed via Windows Update.
Brief user guide
The user interface is composed by window frames for selecting base case, weather case, road data, traffic case, traffic numbers and noise unit. A graphical window frame shows a top view (map) of the case, and a cross section perpendicular to the road. A compass symbol indicates the geographical orientation of the top map. The cross section is used to display noise levels.
N2kR uses pre-calculated sound transmission data that amounts to 1.64 GB, contained in 1920 files. In the menu named ”TC Source” the user can choose to use this data from the local disk, fetch them from internet when needed, or download the whole data set from Internet or disk. The user may select the directory for local storing of pre-calculated data.
Every time you change base case, weather case or road direction, a new pre-calculated sound transmission file is loaded into memory from the disk or internet.
If you enter illegal numbers for any parameter, the background color of the edit box changes. Yellow indicates thar the number is out of range. Red color means that the parameter cannot be interpeted as a number. Change the contents until the color returns to white.
A status line at the bottom of the window shows information on ongoing processes, or consecutive noise levels.
Click on the cross section to display the noise level in the closest calculated point.
DoubleClick on the cross section to highlight the surrounding 5 dB level interval.
