WP 2 Goal

• Establish an industrially useful simulation tool (WeldsimS) that quantifies residual stress distributions in welded steel components and structures.

WP 2 Research challenges

• Develop efficient and accurate numerical algorithms (growing domains, advanced material models, wide range of length and time scales).
• Handling welding process characteristics (heat sources, fusion zones).
• Handling export of stress fields etc. to other models for structural integrity assessment (different meshes etc.).

WP 2 Project results

• The residual stress simulation tool WeldsimS has been established.
• WeldsimS predictions has been used in the failure assessment of multi-pass girth welds of a ferritic ASTM SA 516 steel pipe.
