WP 4 Goals

• Validate the new models by comparing modelling results to experimental measurements obtained within the project or found in the literature.

• Demonstrate the usefulness of the project results through selected case studies that show how residual stresses affect the structural integrity of typical welded joints.

WP 4 Research challenges

• Establish experimental results that clearly reflect changes in experimentally controllable critical parameters of the models.

• Define and carry out case studies that are “complicated enough” to address key phenomena of real industrial relevance, and at the same time simple enough to clearly demonstrate and communicate some basic principles.

WP 4 Project results

• Failure assessment of multi-pass girth welds of a ferritic ASTM SA 516 steel pipe has been carried out in a case study.
