The central management of SINTEF has decided that Life Science should be a  concerted initiativ in SINTEF in the period 2007-2011. Systems biology was from the 1st of January 2008 established as the first generic technology platform with the main title "A systems biological approach to the understanding of microbial processes in biofilms".  Pseudomonas aeruginosa has been chosen as a model organism.

The involved departments in SINTEF are SINTEF Technology and Society - section for Medical Microbiology, SINTEF Materials and Chemistry - department of Biotechnology and department of Marine Environmental Technology and SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture.
