Project Meeting: M42, 16-17th March 2022

Despite our hopes to visit CEA in France during the M42 meeting, the high spread of the Omicron variant and the ongoing uncertainty around the COVID restrictions forced us to hold the meeting again online. We had two half-day sessions on March 16-17, 2022.

First PhD thesis under WASTE2ROAD completed!

William de Rezende Locatel joined the PhD programme at the Institute of research on catalysis and the environment of Lyon - IRCELYON at CNRS in 2019. His PhD thesis, entitled Valorization of Waste Biomass by Catalytic Pyrolysis, is part of the WASTE2ROAD project.

Webinar: Valorization of organic waste, 10th March 2022

On March 10th, we organized a webinar on Valorization of Organic Waste covering a wide range of technologies such as anaerobic digestion, fast pyrolysis, hydrothermal liquefaction, and biochar production.

Project Meeting: M36, 7-8th October 2021

The M36 meeting was held online in two half-day sessions on October 7-8, 2021.

Webinar: Life cycle costing, 22nd September 2021

On 22nd September 2021, we hosted a virtual workshop on Life Cycle Costing with expert speakers sharing on the topics of techno-economic analysis (TEA), life cycle assessment (LCA) and life cycle costing (LCC). The workshop included a panel discussion on the future and implementation of LCC. A total of 46 people registered for the webinar from 9 countries including Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, France, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, and Spain. The presentations are available below.

Webinar: WASTE2ROAD at NoWaste, 20th May 2021

A new project, MANAGEWASTE, has been funded by the Research Council of Norway who provides Supplementary Funding for Norwegian Participants in Horizon 2020 Projects.

Webinar: Biomass liquefaction, 20th April 2021

Exactly after one year, WASTE2ROAD together with H2020 4Refinery have organized a second webinar on biomass liquefaction with more than 40 participants.

Workshop: Co-processing, 14th April 2021

The potential of Co-processing of intermediates (bio-oils, biocrudes, etc) in existing refineries has been a topic being addressed in three ongoing H2020 EU projects (4Refinery, HyFlexFuels,Waste2Road) and the Bio4Fuels National Centre funded by the Research Council of Norway.

Project Meeting: M30, 16-17th March 2021

The partners have held a digital M30 project meeting on March 16-17, 2021. By M30, the second reporting period is over and WASTE2ROAD enters into its final reporting period. The project is expected to end by September 2022.

WASTE2ROAD at Go Net-Zero Carbon Energy Summit, 26-27th January 2021

Wolfgang Vollnhofer from OMV Downstream has presented the WASTE2ROAD project, its concept, the main findings and the challenges related to liquefaction of waste fractions at the Go Net-Zero Carbon Energy summit, a 2-day virtual event held on 26-27 January 2021. The figure below illustrates possible integration of bio-liquids in existing refinery processes.

Advisory Board & WASTE2ROAD Workshop

WASTE2ROAD has recently established an Advisory Board (AB) and we are happy to welcome SUEZ, Lesaffre, Centre Technique du Papier (CTP) and Equinor as the members. The first meeting of the AB members and the project partners was held on December 16th 2020.

M24 Project Meeting

The WASTE2ROAD project has passed its halfway mark at M24. The partners held a digital meeting, divided into two sessions, during October 29-30 2020.

WASTE2ROAD at IDW 2020

Wolfgang Vollnhofer from OMV Downstream has presented the WASTE2ROAD project, its concept, partners and achievements to-date at the International Downstream Week 2020, a 3-day virtual event held on September 8-10, 2020.

M18 Project Review with the EU

WASTE2ROAD has successfully passed through the first checkpoint, the M18 Project Review.

A biomass liquefaction modelling online seminar was organised on April 22, 2020 by VTT and Aalto University.

Master project in WASTE2ROAD

Through the EU's Erasmus+ Programme, we have been lucky to get a master student, Ana Raquel Magalhães Flávio, from Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, Portugal.

18M meeting

The outbreak of the Corona virus in Europe in Spring 2020 has put a stop to our plans for a physical M18 Project Meeting, which was to be organized on March 4-5, 2020 at BTG, Enschede, Netherlands with a visit to the local waste management company Twence. Unfortunately, we had to change our plans just a few days before the meeting and arrange a digital meeting instead. Despite this challenge, the partners had a good meeting with updates on the latest achievements.

Expert workshop

Expoert workshop on Potential of Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) routes for biofuel production was held in Brussels.

M12 project meeting

The WASTE2ROAD consortium held their M12 project meeting 7-8 November 2019, hosted at OMV in Vienna, Austria. The meeting participants visited the lab facilities at the Technical University Wien and the OMV Schwechat Refinery.
