Advanced Wave and Wind Load Models for Floating Wind Turbine Mooring System Design
WINDMOOR is a 4-year KPN-project funded by the Research Council of Norway and offshore wind industry. The project started in 2019 and has a total budget of 16.6 MNOK.
WINDMOOR's main goal is to enable a more efficient design of floating wind turbine farms, by improving load analysis methods. Key knowledge that needs to be addressed include:
-
Validated hydrodynamic load models for low-frequency excitation and damping of floating wind turbines.
-
Better understanding of the consequences of atmospheric stability and aerodynamic interactions between turbines for floating wind turbine dynamics.
-
Efficient global analysis methods for floating wind turbines in a farm formation, including aerodynamic interactions relevant to shared anchors, power cables, or mooring lines.
