Abstract
Several major accidents are related to the interplay of organisational properties and technology. The aim of this report is to present a set of perspectives that can help us understand the organisational mechanisms related to major accidents. Six perspectives are discussed: 1. The energy and barrier perspective;2. The theory of Normal Accidents;3. The theory of High Reliability Organisations;4. The information processing perspective;5. A decision-making perspective;6. The Resilience Engineering perspective. The target groups of the report are researchers, students and advanced practitioners.
