A study on successful practices in a Norwegian company—a systematic approach and key contributing factors

Abstract

This paper describes an ongoing research on current knowledge management practices in a Norwegian organisation in the building construction sector. The study applies a systematic approach. This pa-per presents it by describing a research model and four guiding questions. A theoretical framework is dis-cussed in order to strengthen the description of the systematic approach. In addition, this paper presents indi-cation of emerging results (key factors contributing to project success).
In this paper, key contributing factors are characterized as factors that facilitate and promote knowledge man-agement and competence development. The two key contributing factors that this paper describes are use of knowledge database and communities of practice (CoP). This paper will provide an understanding of signifi-cant knowledge management practices that contribute to successful work practices in project-based organisa-tions.
The study on which this paper is developed uses a qualitative research method incorporating interviews and document analysis.
