Abstract
This paper presents a comparison of three different observers for estimating secondary side information in inductive power transfer (IPT) charging systems. The considered observer methods include the Luenberger observer (LBO), Kalman filter (KF) and extended Kalman filter (EKF). The main purpose is to use observer-based methods to avoid the need for high-bandwidth communication in the control system. Then, in order to estimate the dynamic coupling of IPT systems, only primary side information is used. The studied estimation methods are considered for integration in a control system based on finite-control-set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) method which is employed to regulate the power transfer to the battery. Simulation in Matlab/Simulink have been conducted for several case studies to verify the effectiveness and performance of the different observer methods in the presence of FCS-MPC.
