Abstract
In Norway, carbon capture and storage (CCS) has seen considerable political interest since the mid-1990s. Simultaneously, motivations and strategies for promoting, facilitating, and funding CCS have changed over time. The presentation traces some of these changes, thereby providing insights into the changing scope of CCS and how this reflects specific ideas regarding Norway’s responsibilities regarding global climate mitigation. In particular, this helps elucidate one of Norway’s strategies for navigating the seemingly contradictory political goals of climate mitigation and continued petroleum production.
